The Toronto Summer Music Academy launches its third season from July 20 to August 16, 2009 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada at the Edward Johnson Building (Faculty of Music) at the University of Toronto.
The Academy has been conceived to provide exceptionally gifted young musicians with an opportunity to study with an international faculty of the highest quality and reputation, learning from their experience and musicianship. With limited enrollment, study is intense and enriching and provides students with a chance to interact with the faculty and other emerging professionals.
The Toronto Summer Music Academy program takes place at the Edward Johnson Building on the University of Toronto campus, chosen for its excellent teaching and performance facilities. MacMillan Theatre is a fully equipped opera house; Walter Hall is one of Toronto’s major chamber music halls, and the Faculty of Music library is the largest in Canada.
The 2009 Toronto Summer Music Festival runs concurrently with the Academy program and features over thirty Canadian and international artists in more than twenty concerts, an opera production, workshops, lectures, and twice-weekly Emerging Artist concerts. The theme of the 2009 Toronto Summer Music Festival is ETERNAL STARS, a celebratory commemoration marking the anniversaries of the many great star composers such as Purcell, Händel, Haydn, Mendelssohn and Martinu.
