TORONTO SUMMER MUSIC ACADEMY
July 21 - August 17, 2008
The Toronto Summer Music Academy launches its third season from July 21 to August 17, 2008 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada at the Edward Johnson Building (Faculty of Music) at the University of Toronto.
The Academy program is designed to enhance the artistic development of emerging professionals: experienced musicians at the threshold of their career in music performance. Internationally acclaimed artists and pedagogues offer training in music performance through a series of workshops. The Academy is led by Artistic Director Agnes Grossmann.
The sole criterion for Academy acceptance is musical excellence. Enrollment is limited in each program to ensure quality of instruction. The workshops involve master classes and coaching sessions. Ample time is allowed in the schedule for individual practice and ensemble rehearsals. Students will have opportunities to perform in concert.
The 2008 Toronto Summer Music Festival runs concurrently with the Academy Program and features over thirty Canadian and international artists in more than twenty concerts, an opera production, workshops, lectures and twice weekly student concerts. The theme of the 2008 Toronto Summer Music Festival, IN THE FIRE OF CONFLICT, explores how composers over the centuries have expressed the dramatic tension of confl ict in its many facets.
